Dental Implants Buda Patients Get Their Smiles Back!
Over 20 million people are missing teeth. That’s right – twenty million people who might be having difficulty chewing, who are embarrassed about smiling and who feel nervous when they talk. While I certainly can’t treat all those people, I would love to help anyone in the Buda Texas area find confidence and comfort – even with missing teeth! How? Dental implants.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an amazing innovation. They consist of several parts – the implant post, the abutment and the implant crown.
The implant post is a Titanium rod that is surgically placed into the jawbone. It works similarly to the way a screw works, gripping the bone and holding fast with amazing precision. What is truly remarkable about this procedure is that Titanium actually fuses with your bone, essentially becoming part of your jaw. That means that the titanium post replaces your tooth roots. It is permanent and it stabilizes the area and keeps the jawbone healthy and intact.
On top of the implant post, we usually place a small extension called an abutment. The replacement tooth will attach to this device.
After your post and abutment have healed in place, we will create an implant crown or a replacement for the visible part of your tooth. We usually create these crowns of porcelain for the most beautiful and life-like appearance. Porcelain crowns, when created by a highly trained cosmetic dentist will have all the subtle variations and light reflecting qualities of a natural tooth. No one will be able to tell the difference!
What are the Benefits of a Dental Implant?
Not only is a dental implant a permanent replacement for a missing tooth, it is the most naturally functioning replacement available. An implant works exactly like the tooth it replaced so you can eat, speak and live with total confidence and enjoyment. Better yet, an implant is not susceptible to decay and should last for a lifetime. Occasionally an implant crown will become damaged – but them all that needs to be replaced is the crown! The post stays strong and secure in your bone.
For those who do not want to have all of their teeth replaced with implants, implant supported dentures can offer a great alternative to less comfortable traditional dentures. These dentures snap securely onto implant posts that are placed as described above. Because they are attached to posts, they float above the gums, therefore requiring no adhesive, and rarely cause irritation or discomfort.
